The 4th Eastern Gravity Meeting
The 4th Eastern Gravity Meeting will be held
at the
Physics Department, Bayer School of Natural
and Environmental Sciences,
DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY,
in Pittsburgh.
The meeting is scheduled on Saturday and
Sunday, April 8-9 of the year 2000.
The opening meeting of the annual Eastern Gravity series took place at Penn State University in November 1996. Syracuse University (Spring 98) and Cornell University (Spring 99) hosted the subsequent two meetings.
The traditional format of the meeting consists of three half-day sessions of contributed 12-minute talks, unless relatively few participants request to speak, in which case more time can be alloted to each speaker. The conference organizers welcome talks by established and junior researchers, and advanced graduate students in all the areas encompassed by gravity: classical, quantum, experimental and numerical. No financial aid is available for participants, but the expenses are usually small enough for a graduate-student pocket. Every researcher in relativity within driving distance from Pittsburgh should consider him/herself especially invited to participate, but we welcome all interested participants.
The Duquesne University campus is located on a hilltop overlooking downtown Pittsburgh and the Point, a ten-minute bus ride from Oakland, the site of the Relativity Group at the University of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Museums... and the good Indian restaurants. Accommodations and points of interest are within walking distance to campus. Special fees are now available for participants at the area hotels. Details on lodging are found below. Please note the deadlines for hotel reservations!
In order to maintain within the
traditional time frame of the meeting, we expect to be able to
accomodate a number of up to 35-37 contributed talks. The
meeting will begin in the morning of Saturday, April 8, and would end
by noon of Sunday, April 9, unless unprecedented numbers of contributed
talks are submitted, in which case the meeting would continue past noon
of Sunday.
